We're
All About Birds, for All Seasons
January
January
is always a fun month to watch your yard birds. If
it's a mild year, it may keep many of our northern
visitors just outside of the Twin Cities Metro Area.
Some Pine Siskins and Common Redpolls may be spotted, but
nothing like the huge flocks that come down from Canada
during cold years, or years when there's a food shortage
supply. Cold temps mean better birding! Keep
your fingers crossed and your eyes open as we head into
the coldest time of year here in Minnesota.
This
year promises to be a pretty good year for northern finches.
Pine Siskins are already in the area! (They prefer
Nyjer seed but don't like to cling to mesh the way goldfinches
do, so use a regular Nyjer tube feeder to attract them.)
